Camden Garden Club guest speaker Amanda Affleck will give a presentation on natural dyes Sept. 22.

The Camden Garden Club will meet Sept. 22 at 9:30 a.m. at the American Legion Hall, 91 Pearl St. in Camden with guest speaker Amanda Affleck, who will give a presentation on “Natural dyes: conjuring color from cultivated and wild harvested plants.”

Affleck will talk about methods for extracting dye color from plants and how to achieve a range of colors on yarn and cloth. She will also share examples of the many colors that come from plants that grow in Maine, both cultivated and wild harvested, as well as some of the many print techniques for creating designs on fabric with botanical dyes.

Affleck is a textile artist and maker, who lives with her husband in Somerville, where she runs her textile studio, A Skirt of Leaves. She offers dye classes on her farm and at Belfast Fiberarts, where she sells her handmade and naturally dyed textiles.

After the presentation, there will be a short Club meeting, and all are invited to attend. The Camden Garden Club meets the third Thursday of each month, April through October at the American Legion Hall in Camden. Guests and prospective members are always welcome.
