Throughout the rest of this year and into next, specialist camera bag manufacturer, Lowepro, has committed to transforming to sustainable materials and processes. The ProTactic range marks an important milestone on this journey and all progress will now be rated by a new scoring system.
Indicating their commitment to this new direction of travel, Lowepro ProTactic bags are now being produced using recycled fabric and using the solution-dyeing process. This means overall water saving of approximately 80% and gives a substantial reduction in carbon emissions.
Lowepro has also stated that its product performance will never be compromised and that the new green line label on the rear of each pack, clearly shows the brand’s progress in terms of sustainability. The Lowepro green line symbolises a loading bar, displaying the percentage of recycled fabric and the percentage of solution-dyed fabric used to build each bag. This includes all fabrics, webbings, bindings, zipper tape, cords and meshes. Solution-dyeing [also known as dope-dyeing] integrates the extrusion and dyeing processes, adding dye to the polymer solution rather than dyeing the finished fabric in a separate step.
The green line score is measured following the GRI 301-2 standard, which measures the percentage of total recycled yarn used by weight, compared to the total weight of yarn in the overall product and the new ProTactic range reaches [up to] 64% ‘green’ content. See below for more.
The adaptive second generation of the ProTactic BP 450 AW expands upon the line’s well-known rugged versatility and armoured protection with a more adaptive interior, multiple access points, modular exterior attachment capabilities and convertible utility belt.
