Delhi market registered uptrend amid better buying. According to market sources, higher production activities in fabrics and garment segments, recent gain in cotton and slower production in spinning mills encouraged buyers to rush for buying. There was sense of hurry as some buyers feel that cotton yarn will be short suppled in further months of current cotton season ending September 2022. A prominent trader from Delhi told Fibre2Fashion, “Not only Delhi NCR, but also Kolkata region registered better buying as buyers wanted to insure sufficient stocks for consumption in further months.” In Delhi, cotton yarn prices gained ₹5 per kg after increase in buying activities. 30 count combed yarn was traded at ₹365-370 per kg (GST extra), 40 count combed at ₹400-405 per kg, 30 count carded at ₹315-320 per kg and 40 count carded at ₹355-360 per kg, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro.

But cotton yarn prices remained stable in Ludhiana market. Buyers are still away from the market as domestic production activities were still slow. Traders said that Ludhiana market picks up 10-15 days late because domestic production activities pick up later. A trader from Ludhiana said, “Cotton yarn demand was still weak. Ludhiana is more focused on domestic market which remained unmoved.” In Ludhiana, 30 count cotton combed yarn was sold at ₹370-375 per kg (GST inclusive). 20 and 25 count combed yarn were traded at ₹360-365 per kg and ₹365-370 per kg respectively. Carded yarn of 30 count was quoted at ₹330-335 per kg, as per TexPro.

Recycled yarn of various counts and varieties was traded steady amid limited buying. But the traders were hopeful for better buying in the days to come. Panipat based trader Preetam Singh Sachdeva said that south Indian buyers are coming ahead for buying. Recycled yarn prices are likely to get support in next week, as production activities will pick up in home textiles segment for export orders. However, recycled yarn prices were stable amid better trading activities. Cotton comber prices gained further by ₹10 per kg. The price of cotton waste increased by ₹20 in last 8-10 days. Trade sources explained that comber had noted high volatility with swing in cotton prices. The price of cotton comber touched ₹170 per kg before touching low of ₹100 per kg in recent weeks. Such volatility is quite unusual in comber. It happened due to pattern change in comber consumption.

In Panipat market, 10s recycled yarn (white) was traded at ₹90-95 per kg (excluding GST), 10s recycled yarn (coloured - high quality) at ₹110-115 per kg, 10s recycled yarn (coloured - low quality) at ₹80-85 per kg and 20s recycled high quality PC yarn (coloured) at ₹125-130 per kg. 10s optical yarn was traded at ₹100-110 per kg in the market. Comber prices gained ₹10 to ₹120-125 per kg. The price of recycle polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) was noted at ₹85 per kg.

Meanwhile, north India cotton prices further gained ₹100-200 per maund of 37.2 kg as domestic and global cotton futures moved upside. ICE cotton found support due to draught situation in cotton producing regions of the US and Brazil. According to the traders, cotton prices are increasing on cues of global market, but arrivals were negligible. Cotton was traded at ₹8,800-9,200 per maund in Punjab, ₹8,400-8,800 per maund in Haryana and ₹9,000-9,200 per maund in upper Rajasthan. In lower Rajasthan, cotton was sold at ₹83,000-85,000 per candy of 356 kg.
