We’re in a new month. Fall will be here soon. Our members with September birthdays are Sally Marcellais and Winnie Barr. Hope you have a wonderful birthday. Happy Birthday to Kathy Crowe who goes to the senior pool for Aquafit classes.

We would like to welcome Haley Ward, a lifeguard, to the pool. She will be filling in whenever Susanne Templeton, our full-time lifeguard, needs to be off work. I would like to thank all the girls who help in teaching our Aquafit classes.

Our quilters just don’t quilt. Some crochet also. Last week Carol Puster delivered 40 crocheted hats to Savannah’s Closet and 20 hats to the Gabriel Project. If you have any yarn you are not going to use, please donate it to the center.

The quilt that they are donating to be raffled off as a fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Walk on Saturday, Sept. 25 is so pretty. It’s my favorite color, and the color representing Alzheimer is purple. We will be selling tickets on Sept. 24 at the Harvest in the Wood. The quilt will be on display there. Tickets are $1 each or $5 for 6 tickets. You may stop by the center during regular hours and get your tickets. Do not have to be present to win.

We need members to help volunteer on Sept. 24. Contact Stephanie at 304-273-5648 or while you are at the center to let her know what hours you will be available.

Lunch is served week days at 11 a.m. Next week’s meals are Monday, Italian Chicken; Tuesday, Pinto Beans and Corn Bread; Wednesday, Crab Cake; Thursday, BBQ Meatballs; and Friday, Hot Dogs. Menus are subject to change.

Remember to make your reservation at least the day before and if you are ill, please stay home. Call the center if you want a carryout meal and let us know who is picking it up for you.

The Rada sale is still going on and there’s local honey for sale.

Ongoing activities are Walking Club on Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m., Senior Choir at 12:30 p.m. on Mondays, live music on Thursdays at 10 a.m., yoga on Fridays. There will be bingo at 10 a.m. on this coming Tuesday.

This past Saturday I volunteered at the Sandyville Senior Center for Jackson County Troop Link. Along with Tara, manager of Arby’s, and Janice Anderson, member of the Sandyville Senior Center, stayed busy serving hot dogs during the yard sale. They appreciate everyone who came out to support their cause. They ship out care packages to our soldiers overseas. The money they made will go toward postage. My step nephew, Brian Hess, is one of those soldiers.

One veteran was checking out what was written on our T-shirts. When he came to mine, he asked what mine was about. My shirt had around 500 soldiers’ names listed on the front and back which my late husband, Jim Carmichael, was one of them. These were just the soldiers that were accepted in 2020. I explained my son, Alex, and I participated in a ceremony last year in Washington, D.C. to honor these soldiers who died after Vietnam War but because of the war. Agent Orange. He stretched out his hand toward mine, shook my hand and said, “Thank you for your service.”

Ravenswood will be having the Traveling Vietnam Wall on Sept. 15 -17.

Jesus said to them: “Watch out that no one deceives you. Many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and will deceive many. When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.” Mark 13: 5-8.
