It may be the heart of summer, but the Friends of the Stafford Library already have the holidays on their mind.
The group announced tickets are on sale for a trip to see “White Christmas” on Thursday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m., at Surflight Theatre in Beach Haven, followed by dinner at the Engleside Inn. Tickets are $65 per person; transportation is not included.
Entree choices are marinated chicken breast, Atlantic salmon filet, grilled pork rack chop and penne pasta with vodka sauce. Dinner includes house salad, rolls with butter, coffee or tea and fruit cobbler with vanilla ice cream.

The String of Purls crochet/knitting group meets Thursdays, Aug. 18 and Sept. 1 at 1 p.m. and Saturdays, Aug. 20 and Sept. 3 at 10 a.m. Join to learn or bring your project with you. Beginners, bring size 9 knitting needles and light-colored four-ply cotton or acrylic yarn. To crochet, bring the same yarn, and a size “I” crochet hook.
On Mondays, Aug. 22 and Sept, 12, the Rutgers Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners will conduct a diagnosis clinic at 10 a.m. Bring your diseased plantings for a diagnosis.
On Monday, Aug, 15, a support group for caregivers meets at noon. It is presented in partnership with Hackensack Meridian Health.
Hackensack Meridian is also sponsoring a healthy hearts program on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 2 p.m.
On Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 11 a.m. the branch offers a tour of the library website.
“Live Healthy Ocean County” is planned on Monday, Aug. 22 at 1 p.m. The event features health screenings by the Ocean County Health Department. A registered nurse, nutritionist and dental consultant will be on hand to offer various screenings as well as information for living a healthy life.
From identity theft to phishing attempts, reports of financial fraud in the United States are at an all-time high. To prevent becoming a victim, Stafford Township Community Outreach Officer Marisa Lawrence will educate the public on Thursday, Sept. 8 from 10 to 11 a.m. about the most common scams targeting New Jersey residents.
The summer reading club continues throughout August with its theme, “Oceans of Possibilities.” Check the children’s library section for a schedule of reading club-themed events.
Throughout the summer, a Read and Weed story time takes place at the Stafford Community Garden on West Bay Avenue Tuesdays at 10 a.m. The library is partnering with the Southern Ocean Hunger Foundation for this program featuring stories, songs and garden care. It is geared for children ages 3 and older.
Mah jongg is played every Friday from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Bring your current-year gaming cards and game sets for this drop-in program.
The library is closed Sunday and Monday, Sept. 4 and 5, in observance of Labor Day.
